Budapest Tech Polytechnical Institution, providing education for around 11000 students, was formed, and started to operate under this name on January 1st 2000 in compliance with parliament legislation for the restructuring of higher education and as a result of the integration of former Bánki Donát and Kandó Kálmán Polytechnics along with the Technical College for Light Industry.
The history of the Bánki Donát Polytechnic dates back to 1879, when the Budapest State Industrial School was founded, followed by the legendary Hungarian Royal State Industrial School. The Polytechnic was founded in 1969 where undergraduate courses were offered in mechanical engineering, logistic engineering, informatics, management, technical teacher training, and security technology.
The predecessor of Kandó Kálmán Polytechnic was founded in 1898, bearing the name of National Royal Vocational School of Mechanics and Watchmaking. In recent years Kandó Kálmán Polytechnic has offered undergraduate courses on its Budapest and Székesfehérvár sites, in electrical engineering, informatics, management and safety engineering, as well as for technical teacher training.
On the Óbuda site there are the buildings of the Technical College for Light Industry founded in 1972. The roots go back to the former Women’s Vocational School for Industry and Trade. Technical College for Light Industry provided undergraduate courses for the light industry, management and safety engineering.
Budapest Tech offers continually revised and updated education, which is competitive, flexible, and ready to respond to demands of the market, in the fields of electrical and mechanical engineering, management, informatics, economics, and safety engineering, as well as of related teacher training.
